Decoding Reading Levels

Updated: Aug 11, 2021

As you may have seen in Dr. Ford's note this week - your child will begin guided reading groups using Fontas & Pinnell leveled books purchased last year with Title I funds. In addition to reading in the classroom, our teachers encourage all children to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. Whether that's independently, or with you.

Depending on each child's learning preference and abilities, the charts below share some general guidelines where your child should be reading based on their grade level from Scholastic and Learning A-Z. You can learn more about leveled reading here. Ask your child's teacher what level your child is on, including strategies to advance reading and what their year-end goals could be.

Do you have books at home but don't know what level they are? We love this free search website to look them up!
